Samsung CES 2012 press event live blog

We're live from Samsung's CES 2012 press conference!

  • We're here, and we're in our seats. The line for this thing was insane — it wrapped around the entire length of the fourth floor meeting area of the Venetian hotel at least twice. Getting all these people seated is proving to be a challenge.
  • Compared to last year's Zoll explosion, this is positively tame. I don't see any room for dancers or transcendental explorations of space and time. Or Jeffrey Katzenberg.
  • They do keep oddly cutting to clips of J.Lo, though.
  • Music-wise, Samsung's going with an endless generic electro loop. This would be awesome if we were out in a store, buying pants.
  • Oh hey — we're starting in five minutes, we're told.
  • Expecting one last shot of J.Lo before we get underway.
  • There she is.
  • There's a clip of J.Lo looking outraged about something but I keep missing it.
  • Oh — here we go. Guitar riffs and bass drum action.
  • A Samsung Smart TV just exploded into a million other Samsung products.
  • "Pushing Boundaries." That's our theme today.
  • Boo-Keun Yoon, president of the Samsung Consumer Electronics Division up on stage.
  • "I'm happy to be back in front of so many familiar faces. I'm very proud of where this company is today: we're the number 1 TV brand for the sixth consecutive year." 1.7m TVs sold in November, 2 TVs sold per second.
  • 300m total sales of smartphones in 2011. A first for Samsung.
  • #1 in french-door refrigerators in North America for the third consecutive year, people!
  • "As a global leader, Samsung must go farther. We see our role as making daily life as simpler, smarter, and more enjoyable. We must break down the walls that exist between devices."
  • "Connecting devices to each other is a perennial theme of CES, but Samsung stands alone with a diverse array of products and a track record of leadership to deliver this promise right now."
  • "While we may have many devices, the heart of this ecosystem is the TV. The TV plays an important role in bringing family members together."
  • Updating the TV line with Smart Interaction, Smart Content, and Smart Evolution.
  • "With Smart Interaction, Samsung Smart TV will be able to listen, see, and do what you want, without ever touching a remote control."
  • "With Smart Content for TV, we'll show you first of their kind social services. You will be abile to access education content for kids, and fitness tools for health. These are the start of many services to come, to make what you watch even more exciting."
  • "Samsung is still investing heavily in 3D: more movies and popular shows can be enjoyed in lifelike 3D."
