We're in the door! Should be kicking off in about 20 minutes.
We're in our seats and there's some very "Deep Moods" style music on the sound system.
What kind of deep mood will we be in after this event?
As you might have guessed, there's a lot of color in the room. The stage is decorated in a multi-colored grid of squares — clearly a nod to Windows Phone. Go figure.
Now Bjork is playing. Sounds like some kind of dub remix. One of our developers is obsessed with Bjork. He probably has this on vinyl.
It's interesting to see Nokia with a big US presence again. Looking forward to seeing the new Lumia destined for US shores.
This may or may not be a new Radiohead song on the sound system now.
"Ladies and gentleman thank, we'll be underway shortly. Flash photography will be available for the first minute. Please remain in your seats, we'll begin shortly."
Oooh. It's all really happening.
Okay — looks like this is about to start.
Will Nokia be on time?
"Ready to take the stage, and to re-enter the American market at CES #nokia"
Okay here we go!
"Thank you for joining us here at CES. I'm Susan Sheehan from Nokia. We're going to talk about our reentry to the American market. We'll talk for about 30 minutes, and then have a Q&A."
"Now to share the news, Stephen Elop."
"Well good afternoon and thank you for joining us. It's wonderful to be in North America on behalf of Nokia."
"Last year we outlined a new strategy for our company."
"We wanted to focus on affordable mobile phones. We're now bringing new products and new forms of innovation to the market."
"We brought affordable mobile phones to people around the world. To millions of people."
Stephen is listing off countries.
"Now of course, the second pillar of our strategy was focused on our smartphone business. We believe the industry has shifted from a battle of devices to a war of ecosystems."
"We decided to adopt Windows Phone in order to compete."
"Just a few months ago we introduced the first REAL Windows Phones."
Take that Samsung and HTC.
"They're sleek on the outside with a head turning design."
"The people hub and live tiles give you quick updates."
"And of course, it connects you very quickly with the internet."
"And with Lumia phones you get extras, like Nokia Drive."
"Consumer are responding very positively to these products."
Now he's listing the countries where the devices have been made available.
"On January 11th we're starting the sales of the Lumia 710 here in the US."
"Across our portfolio, Lumia is aimed at the heart of our strategy."
"With Lumia our intent has been to establish beachheads. That is what we're now doing."
"You'll see us push forward with sales and marketing."
"All of that being said, there's much more we can do in this battle — especially here in North America."
